Individuals Devoted to Overcoming Limitations

Competition open to talented young adults age 16 and up

Objective: To bring together talented typical young adults with those with developmental disabilities to create a performance that gives the person with disabilities an opportunity to have a part in a performance in which they are the featured star.

Outcome: To create greater awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities. To give people with disabilities the opportunity to reach their maximum potential. To develop relationships that will continue and bring greater fulfillment to all involved. To promote inclusion into the mainstream performing arts venues for people with disabilities. To give ample recognition to people who unselfishly give of their time to promote the wellness of another human being.

Requirements: Must include at least one person with a disability in the act.

Awards: Non-disabled adults that organize and oversee the performance are awarded larger prizes because more work goes into the process. All participants in winning acts receive smaller awards. Awards go to most creative, most original, most difficult, most inclusive, best overall.

Contributions: Products, gift certificates, and monetary

Contributors: Corporate sponsorships, business donations, individual donations

B.E.S.T. Network coordinates and facilitates the programs. They match typical individuals with those with disabilities and provide a space in which they can work together. May use more than one individuals with developmental disabilities in the act. Extra points scored for the number of participants and the number of hours required to facilitate.
