B.E.S.T. Friends on Campus - Ages 12-21
This program was developed as a way to bring typical youth and those
with disabilities together to work on performing arts projects that break
down social barriers and give those with disabilities a presence on
campus . It gives them the opportunity to try new things and experience
the same joy from accomplishment on stage that typical youth enjoy.
A director from B.E.ST. Network puts together performances that are modified for
the success of students with limitations. Materials are fun, uplifting, and
inspirational and designed to showcase abilities. The director sets time each
week to be on campus to train and help students rehearse for productions.
Once learned the routines can be incorporated into the school programs such as
assemblies, pre-shows for theater productions and musicals, banquets, and
other special events. This brings people with disabilities into the mainstream of
camps activity. It also gives them an after school activity designed for their
success.
