is an entertaining,
interactive event for all ages that creates communities of kindness and inclusion through performing arts events featuring
the talents of people with disabilities.
It is never too soon to introduce children to people with differences. By learning at an early age, inclusion becomes a
natural way of life. Therefore, it is imperative that elementary age children be introduced to diverse individuals and
situations. This learning experience can change the way they view the world, through eyes of understanding and
acceptance.
It is never too late to change ways of thinking in people who never had the opportunity to be involved with people with
disabilities. There are new movements in society that are changing the face of disability. It is no longer acceptable to
exclude them. They have a right to a life of dignity and inclusion in the community in all areas. People with disabilities
are saying, “We are here and we belong”.
Young adults with disabilities from the DAZL (Diverse Artists with a Zest for Life) Performing Troupe, give
self-advocacy talks about what it is like and not like to have a disability. It is an opportunity to show that they are
capable. It is more interesting and has a greater impact for them to present and talk about situations in the first-person.
Students get a better idea of what it is like to have a disability. It takes the fear out of approaching a person with
disabilities. Greater understanding leads to new possibilities for inclusion.
The concert is an upbeat experience filled with popular music that engages the audience. The troupe uses expressive
sign-language to inspirational music for a n emotional feeling you will not soon forget.
Interactive programs of diversity enrichment can be adapted to meet the needs of individual groups or situations. Events
range from an hour presentation to an all day interactive event involving presentations, workshops, and performances.
