Workshop Report
8th September 2025
On 8th September 2025, the BEST Network met in Manchester for its end-of-year workshop, hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University. The event brought together experts from academia and industry, to explore the challenges and innovations in developing antimicrobial surfaces for mass transport and the built environment.

Industry case studies included thin-film antimicrobial surfaces on UK rail ticketing machines and the application of antimicrobial photocatalytic materials in European transport hubs. A series of insightful presentations prompted discussion on the key considerations for different aspects of the network.
